In 2018, Plum was the first salon in Austin to offer Apres GelX extensions and since then, it has become our most popular manicure service!
No-odor and free of toxins like toluene, HEMA, formaldehyde and pthalates, GelX is a full-overlay product that is made from a sturdy but flexible “soft” gel. It comes in a variety of lengths and shapes and is custom fit and filed for your nails. Whether you want round medium or long stiletto - your Manicurist can help you choose a fit that works for your lifestyle and taste.
They are perfect “Party Nails” for special events when you might want a longer, fancier manicure than you would normally wear, or, like many of our clients, you can choose to wear them as your everyday look!
These extensions typically last for several weeks* and are soaked off with acetone in about 15 minutes.
How are GelX Extensions Applied?
After a full manicure to prep the nail plate, the GelX overlay is sized to fit each nail and any custom shaping is completed.
A bonding gel is applied to the nail and cured under an LED light and then the overlay is applied with another layer of bonding gel.
The application is completed on each finger one at a time.
After all ten nails are applied, the overlays are shaped and then polished with your gel polish of choice.
How long do GelX Manicures last?
GelX Manicures typically last 2-4 week with proper maintenance. At Plum, we have had clients wear GelX for up to8 weeks, although by that time the natural nail has grown out too long, which can make the extension unstable due to being unbalanced. We typically recommend not going more than 4 weeks.
To ensure durability of your GelX enhancements, avoid exposing them to household cleaners and chemicals and don’t use your nails as tools for things like opening aluminum cans or similar.
